March 28, 2011

Well this week has felt a little lonelier than usual because the new sister has been pretty sick and so me, being used to seeing the sisters almost everyday, it's just not normal to be serving in Győr without them for a week.
What was funny is that on Tuesday we gave her a blessing and right before the blessing I tried to ask her if she had already been annointed with oil because you know we don't need to reannoint someone twice for the same sickness, and so I tried asking her that and I ended up wording it something like this, "Have you been oiled up yet?" That sounds a little different than I meant it to be. but she got the idea. her comp looked at me like hey watch it, but in a funny way.

Hey mom would you mind teaching me some piano again when I get home? I really enjoy playing now all of the sudden and I wish that I stuck with it. I love sitting on the piano and figuring songs out that I have the guitar tabs for. The way that I did it was that I know that each key is a half step and then after that all I have to do is count the keys from the base notes on the guitar strings and then that's it.

Well other than that my comp and I put two of our investigators on baptism date on the same day. They became friends through a lot of the activities that we do and so they ended up talking about a lot of stuff and then both came to us and said that they would like to be baptized. We didn't even have to ask them.

So it's a good way to go out. Especially because the one that is getting baptized on April 13 said that she wants me to do it.

Love you guys
I'll talk to you later and see you 5 weeks from today.
HOLY FREAK YA

Well, hey daddy.
Well with the whole car thing it's no big deal to me. It would be nice to have a car, but what do you think I should do. If I'll be moving out around the end of may beginning of June then id have to drive it up to Utah. Do you think I should do that or should I get one when I'm up there?

But, man like I've been writing to grandma, it's going to be hard to say goodbye to these people. We watched the Other Side of Heaven and when we watched it, it was a lot harder to watch than I thought. Not because it was in Hungarian, but to see how sad he was to leave the people that he loved, it made me begin to feel the end coming and I felt it bad and it hurt a lot more than I thought it would. I'm ready to be home and move on with life, but man I love these people. I'm about to cry writing it to you. I love these people sooo stinkin much and I think the hardest part of leaving is that I will never see most of them again. With you guys it was hard to leave, but for different reasons. I knew I'd return after 2 years. But who knows when I'll come back here. Mason and I want to save up money here and there and come back next summer or the summer after that, but even still, leaving you guys was more of an, "I have NO idea what lies up ahead". It'll be crazy to see the ward I left and the ward it turned into as of now. If I remember correctly I think that Bishop Butler said that there are about 450 members or so, which is insane to think about, because to go to church here, 50 is a lot. Around that many go to church here in Győr, and that is a fairly large amount to attend pretty often.

Dylan (Dutson) is a little stud man. I miss that kid. I think he's way legit. I hope, too, that I get to see him before he heads off. With our luck he will leave right when I would be home, but I'll be in Germany.
How are things going with that btw? I can't do much so I hope everything is taken care of soon so that it's not too late.

Subway was fun to work at. I hope Adam is enjoying it. I need to go in sometime and see him working there.
Is Harvey still the manager? Did Adam apply to any other places? I think it's way hard for me to see Adam working already cause my last memory of my brothers is of two years ago basically and so when I imagine them it's of when I last saw them. It's going to be insane to see them and how big they have gotten. I miss Adam a lot. I miss all my brothers. It's crazy Austin will be driving before we know it and then well all be married and have kids. I'm excited to see you guys, I've missed you so much, and it will be so freaking sweet to see you guys again.
Life seems good. I have a wonderful family and wonderful life waiting for me. Tons of new amazing friends and everything. I can speak one of the 3 hardest languages for English speakers to learn dang well and my mission is almost over. Everything just seems fine. Plans are in motion and still undergoing changes, but for the most part I'm doing great. In a city I love with a sweet compainion. What else could I ask for.

Also I forgot to mention who my next comp will be. His name is Elder Allen. I hear he's pretty funny, so I'll have a good time with him.
The weather is warm, it was, wow I can say, pretty hot today. It is a national holiday today so it was a super p day. For the most part we hung out at the branch house and played ping pong and I taught a few people how to whip and everything. Played some cards and then we went over to the town hall to watch the concert and memorial stuff they do. Fun fact is that I was here for it last year too. We went on a walk and stuff and the sister, the other sister is also a Hungarian mini missionary, wanted to put make-up on me so she put on some eye liner. She's way cool.
She's an adorable person. Just loves everyone. She only served for 6 weeks but she is SO sad to leave already. She had me draw her the picture of Jesus knocking on the door for her and it turned out pretty well. I'll have to have her send a picture of it to me so I can put it up in my drawings on Facebook. It's crazy how popular that thing is. Even here, there are so many people that use it ALL the time. We call them "facebook függő" It's literally translated to be a facebook dependant, but we could say facebookaholics. It's pretty fuuny.

As of now I have permission to go to Germany and see everyone over there. I think that it will be crazy. But not as crazy as the fact that I only have like 38 days left on my mission.

Well enjoy man and Ill talk to you later.
Sok szeretettel

LAST TRANSFER CALLS BEFORE COMING HOME!!

Hey guys,

Man ya it's crazy that I am in my LAST transfer already.

This week was pretty good. I had a lot of fun and felt real good.
The begining of the week there wasn't much, but at the same time I am just way glad that the weather is a lot better. I can go out in jeans and a t shirt and feel great. There is a nice breeze and everything. I love the heat. Good thing that I go home to the summer of AZ. I can get rid of all the whiteness on me.

I can't believe that when I get home the ward will have all the people that I basically grew up in the church with all gone out on there missions and then just as quick as I have come and gone, they will too.

There was a baptism on Saturay morning, which was great. She is the girlfriend of the elders quorum president and when I interviewed her she was basically saying that she felt like she needed to move back to the city. She is going to be an awesome member.
Then again on Saturday there was a doughnut party. They need to have krispy kream. they dont know what they are missing.
But there was a big dance there too. I had fun. I definitely need to learn how to dance. It's a dang good workout too. If I do that here and there, there's no need for plyrometrics, man my legs hurt.
Well I've got to get to the store and then to the branch house, we are watching the Other Side of Heaven. Its funny in Hungarian. They translated it to be "the naked heaven".

Well love you guys. Have you gotten my letter yet?
Love Josh

March 7, 2011

Man everyone is leaving on missoins! I'll get home and 10 guys will be out or going out on their missions. It's nice to hear there is another missionary that isn't going state side.

Next monday is the calls for transfers. It's insane. One more and I'm home. It's been a slower week, but was still pretty good. I felt really sad on Sunday to see not many people come. I love this ward and to see people get up and bear their testimonies. I have had dreams of giving my last testimony to this branch and it's coming up now in a few weeks here, it's soo sad. I'm ready and need to move on with life, but it's sad to know the time is coming soon.

I think that Hungarians have some funny things. They eat bread with almost everything, or almost every meal. Here its normal to blow your nose ANY WHERE, and I mean anywhere. It's looked past like a sneeze. In church, while we eat, anything. They just blow their noses right there. I got used to it too. I used to be sooo embarrassed to blow my nose in front of people, but now at dinner programs at the table, I too find myself blowing my nose, it's kinda funny. They don't even notice or comment on it.

Well it's been a little warmer recently and stuff, but I think that I am way more than ready for the warm. Here I come AZ!

I think that I would love to see Germany and stuff and learn German, but I don't have time to just live over there. So it's great that I will get to at least visit where Opa grew up.

So could you send my card so that I have memory to use? Thanks.

AND how is my guitar doin? I think thats what I miss the most. Just rockin out. UGHHHH cant wait.
But love you guys too. Dont worry.

Well for this week ~

Do you remember me telling you about a Chinese lady that Elder Houstman and I met with a long time ago when I was here? Well because she was in China and stuff for a lot of the holidays, the missionaries have never been able to get ahold of her, but she is back and we met with her last week and we were able to teach her a lesson about how the things we teach can affect people for generations to come.
With that said, we talked about a talk that President Eyring gave about that and read his story about how one of his distant relatives lived in Switzerland and the rest of her family went to Utah to gather with the saints and then she stayed behind and got a job over in Berlin as a seamstress. At the time, it was illegal to preach the gospel, but for some reason she still told the lady she worked for about it, and then with time she ended up having a group of people over in the house and was teaching them about it. She begged the ladies that she taught to not tell anyone, but they couldn't hold it in and so one night a policeman showed up at her door and took her to jail. While in jail, she wrote a long letter to her judge and told them about everything that the gospel and even with proof that she was doing that, he let her go and look at where his family is now in the church.

It really reminded me of the story that dad told me about him going to visit a lady that ended up being the lady that introduced his grandma to the church. I don't remember the details, so could you have dad send me an email telling me that story. I think its way cool. I really hope that things with going to Germany work out. Kolja as called me a few times. I think that it would be way legit to see Spencer up here in Budapest. I miss that kid so I will try to do what I can to see him. I really think that it would be fun to take some pictures with him here in Budapest.

As for now I'm loving it here. I had a dream the other night where I was bearing my testimony to the branch here and it was soooo sad. I really love these people and I hope that I can always keep in touch with them. Maybe someday you can come with me to visit them. They for some reason are just sooo awesome.

As for anything else, like I think that I have said before, we are trying to get some of the less or inactive members to come back and so far it seems that some might come back and that others are coming back slowly but surely

I love you guys and Hope all is well. Can you believe im in the 50s of coming home. WAIT WHAT?

Peace guys, until next time.

February 21, 2011

It's all good, I understand that it's not all that easy to write things when there really isn't anything going on.

As for here there are a lot of inactives that we're trying to work with and I hope that we can help them get back. It's coming slowly and we know that we can help a few. Some of the others are going to take some more work and we hope that we can help the others.
There are a few that have already come back to an extent so it's a work in progress.

It's cool that Kolja wants to do this for me. I really hope that things get worked out. I have no power really to do anything from here.

Things are going great with my comp. Last night was funny. For some reason we both had bought those sicky hands that you guys love.....NOT (we bought them earlier in the week obviously) but then we began to start fighting with them and they broke because of our awesome power or just because they're cheap sticky material, but after they broke, it turned into throwing them at eachother. We each had one so he was in the kitchen and I was the main room and there was a door and a walkway between the two, so then we turned around and basically gave the other a free shot and then have two shots to nail the other. I think that it was the funniest when I would through it and then it would end up hitting him and jiggling around when it stuck to him. lol!

Well let me know how things are going with my brothers. I have a letter for each of them to send out soon. Along with other ones.

Love you guys
Josh

February 14, 2011

Well the situation that is going on with my birthday backage is that I am up here (in Gyor) and it is down there (in Kaposvar). With me up here I can't go back and get it so I am going to call the post office down there to see if they can send it up to my address here in Győr if they havent already sent it back to you guys, but I hope not. That would suck cause then you basically spent that money for nothing.

Well this week was pretty fast. As for the work here there really isnt much and so that really sucks, but for some reason it really hasnt bothered me. I am with a cool companion and I can practice my hungarian a lot more often now and all kinds of things so I can just have some fun while I'm doing the work. I can't believe that if every week goes by this fast then I will be home in no time and it's insane.
Speaking of the end though, Kolja did call me and I talked to president about it and said that he would be fine with it if you would feel comfortable with him doing it. I am not sure how to take of planning getting all the stuff taken care of like where I would head out from and where I would get to plan all of it, so hopefully that I get some info, or Kolja would be able to talk to the mission office or something to help me get that taken care of.

As for this week we didnt have anything too special, but in the upcoming week we will have Zone conference already again. It's insane how often they seem to come.

I sure hope that I can take care of my birthday package stuff and get it sent here to me.

When Elder Murvai and I got here the house was a pretty big mess and so in the midst of trying to take care of so many things this week, we managed to get that clean and nice lookin. After being on my own I have really grown a dislike for a messy house and so I like to clean like all the time, yet at the same time I seem to be one of those people that wants to clean so many things at once and then as im cleaning something, I see another mess and so it turns into a clean this so that I can clean this and then that and it becomes a line of things. Then yay, its clean. Then like a few hours later its like, "I just cleaned this stuff up, what happened?" It just seems like one project after another and it never ends. Ahhhh, welcome to living on my own. It will be fun though to take care of all the things that I need to. Even when I was at home I made a to-do list and took care of things. I know that then it wasnt that much of stuff, but just when I got an idea of what I want to take care of I wrote it down.

Things here in Győr are going ok. My comp and I have made some pretty good goals to make sure that we get things kickin up here and we are hopin that the weather gets a little warmer again cause its not just us that may not be the happiest to be outside in the cold and so things are a little slower, but I know that the warm is right around the corner.

Well I love you guys. I love you guys and hope that your jobs go through and that you have fun with the Lanes. I love how you guys are such good friends after sooo long. I think it's sick.

I'll let you guys go, I know I take up so much of your time, NOT, gosh I'm sooo lame. I don't have much to talk about recently, but I think that I need to write down what happens so that I don't get here and then all of the sudden I have no idea what to write you guys.

But know that I love you and I will be praying for Adam's friends and your jobs.
Love Josh

**21st birthday!!**

As for news, I am......are you ready......going back to Győr. I'll be there as a trainer to a Hungarian that I got to know from Debrecen. His name is Murvai Tamás and he is way legit. He is preparing to serve a full-time mission and a trainer either make or break his mission, so I think that there needs to be a lot of trust in me from pres to do that, knowing what is at stake. Anyway, I got a call from pres this morning. That's how it usually works when we get calls. The trainers, APs or ZLs going into the position get a call from president.

I still havent gotten your package for my b day. It might come today for all I know.

As for this week, I did some fun things. We went to a basketball game on Wednesday and we went because there are a few Americans here that we know and the only reason that they are here is to play on the team. One is a member, but has been inactive for some time. But his wife is really cool and is about to have a boy. As for the other guy, his name is Kurt. He said that he got some of the new lebrons. I wanna see them. But in the game he had a few good slams. I loved going to see some ball again. I went to jump up and grab the rim with both hands like I used to and uh, came pretty short. It was sooo demeaning. I've got some work to do when I get home. Lol. I do happen to have a stationary bike however in the Győr appartment. So I think that I might take advantage of that this time. I am sure that you remember that there is one there.

This last week I worked pretty hard and I got sick and worked out pretty hard so I know that I am pushing myself to do what I need to.

We also went to this really wonderful family's house this last week. I feel so bad for them cause they live like an hour away and in a one room house. Like it's literally one room. The beds are all on one side and the toilet is in the corner. It's sooo sad, but they are always so happy. I really envy people like that. They were so nice to have us over and to make us little cup holders. They were made out of toiletpaper rolls and candy wrappers, but look pretty good and sturdy. I love their kids too. Their little girl is the one that slammed the door last week and then blammed me. ??? it was way cute.

Other than that, not much has gone on that I really want to talk about. There is a bright side to everything, I just need to find it, thats all.

I love you guys and thanks for the birthday wishes. I am going to work hard and I am sure that I will enjoy the rest of my mission. I'll take care of things later. I know that worrying about here while im here, the Lord will help me all the more when I'm home....in 87 days.

Love you guys.

January 24, 2011

There was so much craziness this week. I don't even know how to put it into any sort of order.
BUT.......it's a good thing that I put a sticky note on my Monday area in my planner so that I could remember what I wanted to talk about with you guys.

You know how we always hear about how some people hate Americans and seeing as a lot of missionaries are from America, there are those people that freak out at them? Well we had the pleasure of meeting one of those guys. My comp does his approach and then the guy says,

" I don't understand. I am Hungarian, speak Hungarian to me.(angrily)"

So I step in and say, we were speaking Hungarian.

So what do you want then?

Well we are here to share a message.

Wait, where are you from?

America.

AH you guys are pieces of *@%!. Get out of here. I hate America.

Why?

Because you are all stupid and ruin everything. You are all crap. blah blah

Uh, ya right, bye.

Another thing that was way cool is that there is a gyros bar here and the two guys that work there just love us. One invited us to dinner and as he was making the food, he was playing Queen. It was soo fun to sing to Bohemian Rhapsody. Every time I hear bohemian rhapsody I always think of Wayne's world. I love to sing in my car, but this is one of the must do's with a group of friends. Ah it's sooo fun. IDK why.

The other night the streets were dead so we went off into the hills to place some flyers over at the family houses up there and so the main streets are pretty lit up, but it was a cold foggy night and the moonlight was kinda blue-ish. There was a part though where to get from one side of houses to another, there was a little patch of trees in between, and there was a dirt road leading through it. It was about as wide as one small car and there were no lights. It was foggy and moist, the dirt was kinda muddy and there was a slight wind as well. As we were walking on the small dirt road to the other part of development, it made me think of the blue foggy tint that is in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. When they are in the final event and are going through the maze. Tall dark trees right by your side and the slight blue hint of the foggy moonlight. It was pretty cool.

That was pretty much it as for anything exciting this week. I did however get to see Mark up in Budapest when we were up there for interviews.

One other funny thing is that there is this cute little 2 year old girl in the branch here. She was messing with the door and I was like "Ki csinálta azt?" (who did that)
And she is still learning to talk, but looked up at me and pointed and said "Te!" (You)
I laughed sooo hard. And the other missionaries and her mom did too. Little kids can be really funny sometimes.

Well I hope you guys have a great week,
Love Josh

January 17, 2011

Hey guys

Ya everything is pretty good over here. Nothing too special, but we have interviews this week again already. The time is flying a little quicker than it feels sometimes. I will be 21 here soon and I don't know where that last year went. It's crazy.

Well as for me, I'm way stinkin tired, but luckily today is p day. I am just going to use it to take care of things. I spent this morning cleaning out the fridge and stuff. I took everything out, go rid of the stinky stuff in it and washed all the removable things and found that Hungarian fridges do have lights, they just need a light bulb!! So I will replace that. I will get some of my past due letters written and sent off. I will take care of some of the drawings that have been requested of me. I sure hope that I can get it done, but I am sure that I can take care of lot of it.

Wow I cant believe that Dustin (Nuttall)is home (he served a mission in the Ukraine). I remember him working at Gelato Freeze. With the whole school thing, it's all really confusing to me and I don't want to think of it right now. When I have some time, like when I get home, I am sure that I can take care of it, but out here where every spare moment is taken by talking to another person on the street, I just see no hopes in adding that to the long list of things I already want to take care of.
I am just thinking though that life will be like this. Always something else to take care of. Always have to fix this, clean that, move this, talk to this person. So I think that I am going through a pretty serious training to do just that.

Well I'll let you guys go and know that there is a letter that will be coming soon. I will send the one that I have for some of our neighbors as well so that I can just send it all at once.

Love you guys

January 11, 2011

We are trying to fit in so much these last few days and we went from working hard and having a lot of finding time to do things and now it's all paying off. This will be a short email because we have a program at 3:00 and its 2:31 right now. So I'll get something off to you and then get more to you later.

I told my comp that I want to run this morning no matter how cold and that we did. We had a nice, cold morning run and I am awake and alert and just the rush that we have with having to go everywhere super fast today is "what we trained for" I tell my comp.

I also told him that I want to be a good example and that I want to work harder. He says he has seen a big change in me already since the beggining of the transfer and that he is really happy for that. If nothing else I want to make HIS mission experience with me one of the best. I have really come to like him. We are just going to tear this city up until we leave. I think there will be times again in my mission where I get down on myself. I think that a lot of the problem is a lack of self confidence. I want success and when it doesn't come I feel that, despite doing all that I can, I still haven't gotten anywhere. I still have done nothing. That's just how it feels sometimes and then I wonder, Oh, well if Im not doing anything, then what am I doing here and I hate being like that. I really do. So I made the choice that I'm going to be happy.

Love you
Josh

Monday, December 27, 2010

There's really not much new to write about since we talked Saturday. Yesturday was the 2nd day of Christmas here, but even then, we still had a normal work day seeing as church is on that day. Oh, we have 2 days for New Year's instead of just one day like last year.

Ha I will tell you that too little sleep is making it hard to get up in the mornings but I am still doing it.

I'm actually in a pretty relaxed, calm mood right now but ready for some rest. It's weird that you think, oh holidays are coming up soon. I have some "rest time", grrr. Not really. We travelled a lot and that wiped me out. So it didnt help to stay up a little later and stuff, but it was a rare occasion that I wanted to enjoy.
We played some basketball over the weekend. It's a little weird that even though it's pretty cold again, it has warmed up and the snow has melted away. I'm happy for that. This is how it was last year. A little snow then none for Christmas, then after that a bunch came down around the middle of January.

No, I still have gotten NO more packages, but I am sure that I will get them soon. Hopefully today. I'm super excited to see what was sent.

I love you guys and hope the best for you all.

I cant believe that I'll be home in 4 months. Weirdly enough it seems like a long time away. Well I'll talk to you guys later.
Happy New Year (wishing it early of course).

Love Elder Josh

Well the pics are of me and my comp trying some of the infamous pig jello here called Kurcsonya. I'm not sure if I spelled it right.

PSS the other side of my right eyebrow was just shaved in a little too far. oooopps. My bad, lol!

December 20, 2010

Whoa I almost choked and fell over dead. I am actually getting a package from you guys? I have gotten packages from people though. I got some from Raimund already and I also have gotten one from Tante Liesl.

This week was pretty quiet in the beggining, but then near the end it got better.

Wednesday was transfers and I got the chance to have an interivew with President Baughman. As the talk went on, I kinda realized something. With opposition in all things, we need to feel the opposition to truly appreciate the good sides of things. I think that with coming to realize some of the happiest things in my life, I have also needed to experience the bad part, "the oppostion", or maybe the opposition makes me realize the good side of things.

So with that talk and a really diligent comp, who is a really great guy, I am doing great. I feel like I'm just tearing it up now. Now that I'm enjoying it again, the time will fly and I'll better the people and work here. I still hate the snow and things aren't the easiest to be working in, but life's good. Sadly, I'm feeling each night that I might be getting a little sicker and then on top of that, somehow I have my hip flexer pulled and it's way tender and hurts to walk, I'm almost done though. I'm super happy. I have so much waiting for me at home.

Well to continue, Thursday, I don't even remember,
Friday we went out to a little villiage named Kurd. Its near Dombóvár, which is like an hour away, but a German family lives there that are really nice. We only visit them once a transfer because it was a day-long thing.
They made a really nice lunch/dinner for us. While there i really felt like a greenie again. Its been a long time since I learned some German, but I could hear so many words that were familiar, and since I recognized them, but could not remember the meaning, it got way annoying. I felt like I should know those words, but then again, its been like 3-4 years since I studied it and never really knew it, so it's no big deal, but it made me want to learn it again. If I can learn Hungarian, then I definitely could learn German. The only thing is that the way I want to learn it, to speak like a native, would be through living there for a year or two, but I don't don't have the time to just move to Germany for the sole purpose of learning German! It'd be way cool, though. The son there knew how to speak English, so I could say my two phrases that I can remember and then I'd have him translate.

Saturday we were invited to our branch presidents house for a Christmas lunch. We did it a week earlier because he is from Pécs and so he is going to have the Pécs Elders over another time. He has a daughter over in England on her mission. She is on the little island called Jersey between France and England. It's really small, but that would be fun. Anyway, we just looked at pics of that and ate some Tiltölt kápolszta. (stuffed cabbage). Its SOOOOO good. Then after that we had some time to spare before our bus left so we went to the Christmas party to say hi over at the Pécs branch house and so I got to say hi to a lot of the Pécs member again and got to actually talk with them now that I know how to do that. When I was there before, I couldn't speak Hungarian yet very well.

Other than that we have had a little branch get together, we had an investigator come as Santa and hand things out.

Well things are going pretty good here. The work is picking up and we are getting things done.

It's hard to believe I'm in my 13th tranfer. HOLY crud. And I'll be 21 in a little over a month. Also for Christmas we have zone conference Thursday, then Friday we'll be in Veszprém with Elder Mason, then Pécs on Saturday and stuff. I don't know details on what we'll do. I am just ready for some mental rest. All the traveling and the cold is just wearing me down, so it's going to be nice to have a break.

Well thanks for all the stuff. I don't know what it is yet, but thanks anyways.

I love you guys.
Have a wonderful Christmas and we will talk soon.

December 13, 2010

From Elder Hosch's email this week:

Yesterday I gave a talk in church and it was based off of President Monson's talk this last conference, the one about expressing gratitude in any situation. I honestly think that I got more out of it than the members that I gave the talk to. As I was preparing that morning, I just felt like I really need to take that talk into my own life a lot more powerfully than I have been. It kind of goes back to my whole trying to be more optimistic. He started off his talk by going over the part in Luke 17 where there were ten lepers and they knew to turn to Jesus for help, but then after doing what he said and being healed, only one turned back and thanked Him for that. It make me think, ya I'm out here and I'm "following" what He has asked me to do, but how earnest have I been in telling Him that I'm grateful for what I have received from all of this. I really felt an urge to just start praying about what I am thankful for. I can only give you a few guesses about what those things are, but it was one of the more spiritually powerful prayers I have had in my life. It just felt so good to read the words of the prophet, take heed to them and then act on them and really feel the joy that comes from it. I love getting those little boosts here and there to really make things more special. I really needed that at that time and I am glad that I took what it takes to just DO IT (Thank you Nike).

Time isn't going by too fast right now but I think that it will soon. Next week we have Zone Conference and then after that we have 3 super P days. The Monday after that I might have to be going up to the place where we get our visas cause my new comp is now in his second transfer. The greenie that was here in Kaposvár with an Elder Miller is now coming over with me. His name is David Runnells. He is from Utah and a way cool guy. We will have some fun. He is really obedient and will teach me a thing or two and we'll just have fun with Christmas and then my b-day. (21!!!)

Love you,
Elder Hosch

December 5, 2010

Man you guys wrote so much I dont even know where to start. Dad wrote me too and it's just so much for me to e mail, especially because Mom, you know how fast I type. That's definetely one thing that I need to learn when I get home. I am a little faster than I was, but still type pretty bad. I need to get going on that.

Dad sure wrote a powerful letter to me that really really helped. Things have been pretty rough lately with so many people dogging us and the work being basically frozen to a slower state cause of the weather. It's pretty cold here too, but really hasn't snowed yet. It's been right around freezing for a week and a half or so. The air is so dry and just cold, I hate the cold, it's not fun at all. But I have been way down and think so much about coming home. Not seriously, but it's one of those dumb thoughts that come across your mind when you are just way struggling, but I love what I have learned out here and love that I have met some of the most amazing people out here. Like the whole ward in Gyor, plus there's a girl that's from Győr who is like my little sister. I love that ward so much I would do anything to go finish my mission there. Some of the young men there are some of my best buds. One that I have become really close friends with might be going on a mission, too. I worked so hard with him to be a good example and a really close friend. He wasn't very active, we would go over to his house and let him see that the church can be fun and means so much to us. I don't know where I would be with out it. One thing I would like Jeremy to realize is that, ya it may be hard, but when you are taken from all the things that you have as a normal person, the things that we get preoccupied with that distract us, we get to really find out about ourselves. We get to hone in on what we are good at, see where we are weak and learn how to work on that, all while we are helping others to be better, too. Because to really understand others, you kind of have to put yourself in their shoes. It's so much evaluation that we don't realize it all the time, but we learn to think within ourselves and truly become better. I have learned where I want to take my life. I have better come to know how we lose our lives to find them. Things get hard because everything that I enjoy doing I can't do right now. It's like signing up for two years of grounded time. Two weeks of no Nintendo was tough at home, but then you come here and it's nothing, lol!

It has benefitted me in so many ways and I'm trying to be more of an optimistic person out here. If I only look at the bad, then I only feel the bad. If I look at the good, the bad stinks, ya, but it's easier to forget it.

Well it seems that the Bishop wasnt kidding when he said that I would be the first of many to go out. When the time comes around to go home for me, there will be many guys from our ward who will be getting papers in or are already out. It's cool to hear how many are getting ready.

There were a few times this transfer already that people have told me that I have a really strong European accent and others say I have no accent, saying that I sound like a Hungarian when I speak. It's one of the coolest compliments that you can get when learning a language and from the natives too.

Well also this week I thought that I got my package from you guys, but I actually got one from Raimund. He is soooo nice. He really looks forward to seeing us up there after my mission. I wonder if all that could go through. He sent some of the left over forint that he didnt use and then he sent some wrapped Christmas presents. That's a real test of patience, having to wait to open them. Lol.

Well I love you guys and hope that you have a csodálatos hét (wonderful week)
Love you.
Enjoy the pics. Im going to start taking more.

Thanksgiving, 2010

The week of Thanksgiving, the missionaries didn't have their usual p-day on Monday because they were going to have a "super" p-day on Thursday, Thanksgiving. It's so wonderful to know that when serving abroad, home traditions are not forgotten. Elder Hosch and his companion, Elder Proctor, and several other missionaries were treated to a Thanksgiving feast prepared and served by a missionary couple, The Rollingson's. They posted this picture on their blog:

"Eight hungry Elders serving in Pécs and Kaposvár. Elders Galland, Mullen, Bennion, Proctor, Crandall, Miller, Runnells and Hosch."

It's so great to know that there are people like the Rollingson's (a missionary couple), mission President and his wife, members, investigators, and even strangers who are so good to these young men and women who go out to serve others and forget themselves for 2 years.

November 15, 2010

Hey guys,
First off, here is my new address.

7400 Kaposvár
Városház u. 1/2/2
Hungary

Well I'm feeling a lot better now. I'm not sick at all. More just back to the good old tired.

The new city isn't as bad as I thought it would be. It's more laid back as a ctiy. Not as many people and not big enough to have people always on the go, so things move a little slower here.

As for right now I'm with Elder Proctor. He's a pretty cool guy. He is from Southern California, I think not too far from San Bernadino, which is way cool.

But anyway, the branch here is pretty small and only has a handful of members. I had to translate for the senior couple that came to talk on Sunday. It was pretty hard to translate that kind of stuff, but I got it done. It's pretty cool to be able to translate some pretty serious stuff into a very hard language.

My comp and I get along pretty well. We're still getting to know each other and we're working pretty hard, but boy do transfers wipe me out. I get super tired everytime, especially when it's me that is moving. We have to carry everything that we own on and off trains and all over the place to try and get to where we want to go. We had to pack up everything, then when we get there we have to unpack it into a totally new place.

The cool part about being here now is that there are 4 elders here and so we can have a bit more fun with things and stuff. Elders Miller and Runnels are the other 2 that serve here. Runnels is a greenie, but on fire. They came in on a hard situation where they had to white wash as a greenie and trainer, that's not easy, but he talks to everyone, and I mean everyone. We were standing in a little group outside their building right before we were all going to go our seperate ways and then go home, there was this lady that got "too close" and so the new elder jumped out of the little group of the 4 of us and then started talking to this older guy. Then the guys stops him and says, "I'm sorry, I don't understand", grabs a random guy and says, "here tell your story to him, I don't understand." So then Elder Miller turns to us and says, "REFERRAL", lol. It was pretty funny.

I talked to the senior couple that are working in the office and they said that I tell president what the situation is for the end of my mission and then people will arrange the flight plans and stuff with you guys. I need to know if you are coming or not to let pres know whats up. I can e mail him today and let him know that if I want to take summer classes then I need to take the early transfer in order to get home in time to start them, reguardless if you guys come or not.

I sure miss my brothers. It kinda sucks to think that yes, I'll be home from my mission, but we won't be kids anymore. We won't have just school to worry about and think that homework is a pain in the butt. lol Sadly we are growing up, but I still miss them like crazy. Every time I have a dream of me walking off that plane I see Adam screaming my name like he does after a week-long camp, acting like I've been gone for much longer. (But in this case, that is how it is.) I see Jeremy kind of being ashamed of crying like I am, but we don't care then, I see Austin with that cute, big goofy smile on his face and all of them almost as tall as I am. Even here in the e mail place I get teary-eyed just thinking about it. It's going to be a crazy day. Holy Crap. I will have sooo much fun getting to do things with them again. To them it might just be what they have been doing the last two years, but for me it will be like "OHHHH remember when we used to do this or this?" It will be soo much fun.

Well I hope that you guys don't eat all of my food (you're sending me) because I'd like to actually get some of it. And I hope that you guys have a wonderful week.
I love you all and hope to hear from you soon.
Love Josh.

From Wikipedia, some history of Kaposvár:
According to legend, the city was founded on seven hills (like Rome). The area had already been inhabited by 5000 BCE. From around 400 BCE, Celtic tribes inhabited the area.

The city was identified as "Kapos" in the founding document of the Episcopate of Pécs in 1009. The rectangular motte castle was reconstructed as a stone castle in the 15th century. The castle was destroyed in 1702 at the order of Leopold I, Holy Roman Emperor.

The Ottomans occupied the city after a five-day siege in 1555, and stayed for 131 years. The city and area were freed from Ottoman rule in 1686.

In 1749 Kaposvár was designated the county seat. During the 1800s the city developed considerably, due to the importance of the railway line between Budapest and Zagreb. Kaposvár became an important industrial city.

In the early 20th century, the city became the center of an artists' colony associated with the rise of the modernist movement in Hungarian art.[1] In 1950 the city annexed the village of Kaposszentjakab; this was followed by annexations in 1973 by Kaposfüred, Toponár and Töröcske.

In 1990 Kaposvár, as a city above 50,000 inhabitants, was elevated to the rank of city with county rights. Since 1993 it has been an episcopal seat of the Roman Catholic Church. The University of Kaposvár was founded on 1 January 2000.

November 8, 2010

Ya time goes by too quick or too slow. But never the way you want it to. LOL.

Anyway, things are ok here. Im leaving too, by the way. We got our calls and I'm going to the other side of the country again. I'll be over in Kaposvár near Pécs, so hopefully I can go visit over there. I will be serving with Elder Proctor.

I have been sick this week so things have been a little slower feeling, but ok.
Nothing special has really been going on around here.

Oh well. I hope that I get your package here soon. I will be leaving and I saw that you sent me a package and I still have yet to get it.

I saw on one of the MSN headlines as I got onto the CPU that they are trying to get rid of the health care plan now. When I heard about that and just how bad it sounded I really hated it, so I'm happy that they are trying to get rid of it now. I hope that with all of those new Republicans in the Senate too, we can get some good stuff going.

One thing that I told my comp is that I think there should be some way that when a person running for office promises something to the people, then he should be accountable for what he said. I think that its crap for a President of the USA, the most powerful man in the world, to lie to people to just get what he wants. There should be some way that he should be accountable for what was promised.

Well, its a rainy day and we were hoping to go play some basketball, but I guess that's not going to happen. It's alright though. We have things to do. I have some packing and de-junking to take care of.

I love you guys and miss you guys. I hope that all the sport stuff is awesome. Sports are sweet and I miss them a lot as well, but well see what's up with me and sports when I get home.

I can't wait for flight plans and stuff too. I can't believe that I might be getting the call soon. I don't know when, but it'll come sooner or later.

I will also have to have Jeremy hook me up with some In and Out when I get home. That place is talked about a lot over here as missionaries and we are all trunkie for it. lol

Love you all

November 1, 2010

Hey guys. Whats up?

Man basketball tryouts for Jeremy? I think that he will make it. As far as I've heard, he seems to be doing pretty good. I hope that he makes it so he can teach me a thing or two when it comes to coaching and stuff. Thats one thing that I think has held me back is that I have never been coached. So I don't have the best smarts when it comes to the game, a lot of it is just my smarts, and you know how much I lack there. lol.

Well I hope that he makes the team. I think that everything would be cool if he could get on a team. Make playing ball with him again a challenge for me. We are going the complete opposite way when it comes to basketball skills. I haven't had time or resources to practice at all. We have played but on the sport day and for a short period of time. I think that it will come back, and with the new challenge from Jeremy being a lot better when I get home, it will help me improve as well. I really love that game. I miss it a lot and I hear about all kinds of trades but I'm not really sure. I hear Shaq's already off of the Cavs and with I think the Celtics, and Lebron James is out in the Heats. D wayde and King James. Man the Heats are going to kill. I wonder if they will still have Big baby glenn davis play the center with Shaq in there now. I think Shaq should retire. I think he is just being pushed around here and there more for an audience attraction. Anyone who knows anything about basketball knows who he is and that he is way over his prime and is almost done.

Anyway as for what happend this week, we had a Halloween party over in Nyiregyháza. The sisters and elders from here in Debrecen all had basically matching costumes. The sisters wanted to be "faith without works is dead"...boring, but then again we didn't have any better ideas, but then the sisters found out that nobody here really knows about that scripture as much as they do in America, so they said that we should be the 4 seasons. Sister George was spring, Sister Jordan was summer, Christensen was fall and I was winter. I drew and made masks for all of us and then Sister George painted on my face. I had her paint a huge smile on my face like what I saw in one of the Fall out Boy music videos on Pete the bass player, but a lot of people said that it made me look like the Joker from Batman. Which is funny cause guess what shirt I bought on saturday too???? Yep a BATMAN shirt.

The party was pretty fun. I was tired, though. But then again it was nice to see some of the members and Elders from Nyiregyháza, Eger, Debrecen and some members from Miskolc. Speaking of which, we will be going up there this week for interviews.

As for this week, our schedule is set up. The week is going to be pretty full and so the last full week of transfers might fly by pretty quick. Things are basically already set up for tomorrow. Then Wednesday is interviews and then the normal English class on Thursdays. Man last week of transfer 11. Then it's 12 and I'm only going to 15. I still haven't recieved any calls about when I'm leaving and things like that, but I know that the time is probably coming soon.

As of now my comp and I are both kind of sick. It was worse last night, but a lot better now. My throat was just raw and I had a bad headache. Luckily today we can just rest for some time.

Well I love you guys. Send my love to everyone, especially the Moyers. That's good that Isabelle is doing ok. I hate when people get sick like that. Especially now having to go without my loved ones close to me, losing one would be really hard, even harder to have to see them suffer. So let them know that I'm grateful for what they have been doing for me. It really means alot. I will be sending them a letter soon too. I have some time to write today. I'll get one off to G ma and them and see who else I need to write. Sadly because of the holiday almost nothing is open today, but then again that means more free time because we can't go shop.

Love Josh

October 25, 2010

Well here are some pics of me with Elder Christensen.

There really isn't anything going on with us. He's chill and laid back, pretty quiet. We do get to joke around a bit here and there and still have a pretty good time. I think that the biggest question is what is going to happen with us. Just because he has had 4 areas. 4 comps in 4 transfers. And then again there are 14 missionaries coming in and so I might have to be training and because of that, he might have to leave again. But the next transfer is shorter, too, because the 6 weeks would end like 2 days before christmas and the travel plans would be pretty big for those that have to go home, they have made the next transfer 5 weeks and the following 7 weeks and what's wierd is that I will turn 21 in that transfer. I can't believe that.

Wanna know something funny? There is this guy here in Debrecen that is about 70 years old and he dresses up like the captain off of Giligan's Island and seems to be messed up pretty bad mentally. I've seen him a few times and he always comes over and salutes us and then starts telling us about how awesome the whores and sluts are up in Budapest. I just keep nodding like.....um ok. It's happened a few times before and it's like the same thing every time. It's funny as junk.

Man I am tired though, cause we played basketball on Saturday from about 10:30-2:00 and I haven't done that for a long time. So Sunday I ended up doing that thing where your head feels really heavy all while you are trying to pay attention, and you keep going in and out of sleep sitting up. And where your head hurts when you try to force your eye lids to stay open. So after Priesthood the teacher, in a joking way, wiggled his finger for me to go talk to him and then asked me what's wrong, who/what bothered me. I just explained it to him and then he was cool with it and showed us this funny video of this guy who goes off this huge ramp on a slip-n-slide and lands in a pool way far away and it looks really real.
here is the link if you wanna see it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wAjpMP5eyo

If it doesn't work then just look up huge slip and slide on youtube and it is a big one with a yellow material as the slide.

Man I can't believe that Austin is 14 now. I totally forgot to send off his stuff. I even got it ready. Crap. I need to send that off today. I really hope that he had a fun b day.

Well I love you Guys, Hope you have a great week. I need to go nap and draw right now lol.
Love Josh
